A Day in the Life at Peaceful Waters Retreat Center

The alarm clock has been replaced by birdsong.

As the first light spreads across the lake, guests begin to emerge from their rooms and gather with warm mugs of coffee or tea on the porch overlooking the water. The lake is still and quiet, reflecting the colors of the morning sky while deer wander through the property and birds call from the trees. It is the kind of morning that invites you to slow down and simply notice where you are.

Soon, the retreat begins to come alive.

Some groups start their day with yoga, meditation, breathwork, or movement practices in our spacious meeting and yoga room. Others gather for workshops, strategic planning sessions, journaling, or group discussions. With natural light pouring through the windows and expansive views of the surrounding landscape, the space supports both deep focus and meaningful connection.

As the day unfolds, guests head outside to enjoy everything the property has to offer.

The lake often becomes the center of activity. Some guests glide across the water on paddle boards while others explore by canoe or cast a fishing line from the shore or dock. There is no rush and no schedule demanding attention — just room to breathe and enjoy being present.

When the Texas sun climbs higher, the pool becomes a favorite gathering place. Guests cool off with a swim, lounge poolside with a book, or connect over conversation while lunch or barbecue is prepared nearby. These unscheduled moments often become some of the most memorable parts of a retreat.

Of course, no visit to Peaceful Waters is complete without spending time with our animal residents. Guests love meeting our longhorns, goats, chickens, rabbits, and horses, each bringing their own personality and charm to the property. For many visitors, these simple encounters become unexpected highlights of their stay.

Another favorite stop is our retreat center itself. Built using earth block construction, the building is both beautiful and sustainable. Guests are often fascinated to learn how the blocks were made using the earth beneath our feet, creating a structure that stays naturally comfortable while connecting the building to the land around it.

As evening approaches, groups gather once again — this time on the spacious deck overlooking the lake. Dinner is shared outdoors as the sun begins its slow descent across the water, painting the sky in shades of gold, orange, and pink.

Eventually, conversations drift toward the fire pit.

Under a canopy of stars, stories are shared, laughter echoes across the property, and the pace of life slows even further. Some groups sing songs, some reflect on the day, and others simply enjoy the quiet crackle of the fire and the company around them.

By the time guests head to bed, something has shifted.

The noise of everyday life feels a little farther away. People feel more connected to themselves, to one another, and to the natural world around them.

And then, in the morning, the birds begin again.
